Mrs. Thao – Kindergarten Teacher

Where were you born?   I was born in Stockton, CA.

What is your middle name?   I don’t have a middle name, but my siblings call me ‘La’.

Do you have any siblings?   I have 13 siblings (7 sisters/6 brothers).

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?   I like to have dinner with my sisters and spend time with their families.

Do you have any pets?   We have a turtle and a frog.

What is your favorite city you have ever traveled to and why?  LA, I went to Disneyland for the first time during my honeymoon.

If you could choose any profession other than teaching, what would it be?   A stay at home mom.

Which grade were you in when you had your most memorable teacher? What made him/her memorable?  5th grade, My teacher’s name was Mr. Pilkingston. He was funny and he taught outdoor school during break. We started the garden at my school.

What is your “go to” song when you’re feeling down?   I don’t have a particular song, but I turn on WAY FM.

What is your favorite restaurant and which is your favorite dish at that restaurant? Ramen Ryoma, I love the spicy miso ramen.

What app can you not live without and why?   Messenger, I communicate with several of my family members through messenger.

What’s the funniest thing one of your students said to you yesterday?   The students read a scholastic reader about Dr. Martin Luther King with my sub the day before.  A few came in and said ‘We know that he died.”

What would your students be surprised to learn about you?   I wear glasses.

What did you want to be when you grew up?   I always wanted to be a teacher when I was a child.

What’s your favorite thing about teaching?   I enjoy watching my students grow throughout the school year and love seeing their excitement around the school once they have moved on to another grade.
